Hi, I’m West.
I am many things, but if forced to enumerate for the sake of this intro, I am a Historian, a Data Scientist, a Disabled Veteran/Former Infantryman, a Montana Boy, and an american citizen, in no particular order.
I hold a Master of Arts in History from McGill University in Montreal, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in the History of Science, Environment, Technology, and Society, with a Minor in Religious Studies from Montana State University. In addition to this, I hold a Professional Certificate in Data Analysis from IBM, et un Certificat de Francisation - programme intensif de 44 semaines du Quebec.
I am actively seeking opportunities to apply my unique skillset, and am willing to relocate outside of North America.
I was always immersed in other worlds from the time of my birth. Due to the unique positionality of my parents and their histories, I was at birth named and adopted into the Amskapi Pikuni (Montana Blackfeet) nation. At age ten I was moved from Montana to New Mexico. There, through my own choices and the freedoms that my parents provided me, I chose to be immersed in another unlikely culture, that of the Thai Buddhists.
In short, I am a child of many and no cultures.
Because of the odd circumstances of my upbringing, I do not see the world like anyone else I have encountered. I roundly reject the western Christian worldviews as alien and incomplete, and instead take life, nature, and the Earth’s creatures as my teachers. For me it doesn’t matter what the subject is, I do my best thinking and my best learning when I am alone in the wilderness. I find that this gives me an edge in most aspects of life, as I consider ’normalized’ western methods, norms, and boundaries to be more impediment than use.
